Christmas or Christmas Day is an annual festival
commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, observed most commonly on December 25
as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the
world. A feast central to the Christian liturgical year, it is prepared for by
the season of Advent or Nativity Fast and is prolonged by the Octave of
Christmas and further by the season of Christmastide. Christmas Day is a public
holiday in many of the world's nations, is celebrated culturally by a large number
of non-Christian people, and is an integral part of the Christmas and holiday
season.
Many people celebrate the Christmas holidays on December 25, but Armenians celebrate the
Christmas day on January 6,
because we are followers of Armenian Apostolic Church. I like to celebrate Christmas
holidays in my country in
traditional ways. Sure sometimes I used to celebrate Christmas in other cities, but usually I celebrate it at home. In Christmas holidays I go to church and take part in the liturgy. Also we
have different ways of spending Christmas holidays. For example Americans start
celebrating Christmas on the day before (Christmas Eve).I don't really know what are they doing but judging by the
movies and pictures they spend in a different way. In Armenia with the
Christmas we also celebrate Easter. Drinking wine, color eggs, breaking them
and then eating them.
Every year I celebrate the coming year in the circle of my
family at home. We always
decorate Christmas tree on December
30, the day before New Year. We prepare Armenian New Year’s traditional
dishes. And during next 5-7 days, we visit our relatives and
friends.
